Apply for a flat-rate allowance

A flat-rate allowance is financial assistance awarded if the journey from home to school cannot be made using public transport (ZOU ! buses or trains) or a school shuttle bus. 

The flat-rate allowance is available to:

• Boarding pupils whose home is more than 10 km from the school or the nearest bus stop
• Day pupils whose home is more than 5 km from the school or the nearest bus stop

The following are not eligible:

• Post-A-level students
• Paid apprentices
• Pupils attending non-state-funded schools

Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year must be submitted from 1 October 2026, with a deadline for receipt of applications of 31 December 2026.
